Award ceremony by Pogo Women's Movement, 18-12-2019
In the 3rd Annual Women's Award "Katina Nikolaou - Klio Christodoulidou", Pogo Women's Movement have chosen to award the Turkish Cypriot Journalist Sevgul Uludag and the Greek Cypriot Christina Pavlou Solomi Patsia. Two women dedicated to trying to determine the fate of missing persons in Cyprus.
Sevgul Uludag is a Turkish Cypriot journalist and an activist for Peace, Reconciliation and Reunification. For the past 18 years, she has been trying through journalism to locate as many missing people as possible and reveal their tragic stories. She has traveled from the one end of Cyprus to the other to examine information, to see places where suspected mass graves could be located. Moreover, she brought together Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot relatives of missing persons helping them to understand and share the loss and pain in both communities. Christina Pavlou Solomi Patsia is a woman who herself experienced the deep grief and pain caused by the war. On the 15th of August 1974, her entire family was arrested at their home in Komi Kepir and taken to Galateia village. That was the last time she saw her brother and her father alive. Her personal drama drove her to contact Sevgul, who worked with her for a long time until they could find reliable information about her father and brother. They were finally found and buried in March 2018. However, Christina's involvement didn't stop there but together with other relatives of missing people, members of the Bi-communal group "Together we can" still struggles for the location of other missing people as well as for her vision for Peace and the Reunification of Cyprus. |

paying tribute to Hassan and Hambou,
Androlykou, paphos 15th October 2017
Our choir visited the graveyard at Androlykou, a Turkish- Cypriot village, and paid tribute to Hassan and Hambou , the two Cypriots whose love was so strong that they disregarded every obstacle and prejudice and got married in the early 60’s, had their family in this village which they did not abandon even in 1974, and when their lives came to an end they were buried side by side with due respect to each other's background and religion.
The story of Hassan and Hambou was the main theme of Panicos Chrysanthou’s film “ Akamas since he saw them as the symbol of love and devotion, the victory of love over hatred, the triumph of unity over division. http://cyprus-mail.com/2014/07/27/turkish-cypriot-whose-great-love-inspired-a-movie-dies-aged-79/ |

INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL "KYPRIA 2016"
Our choir in co-operation with the Cyprus Symphony Orchesta, directed by Mr. Alkis Baltas, participated in the KYPRIA International Festival, a leading cultural event organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The Greek singers Demetris Bassis and Sofia Avramidou also sang in the performances which took place on September 28, 29 and 30 2016 in Paphos, Nicosia and Limassol respectively. Mikis Theodorakis' "Song of the Dead Brother", which was inspired by the tragic civil war in Greece, is both a lamentation of the Mother who loses her children in wars and a hymn to brotherhood and unity. These same messages of unity, reconciliation and peace in our own divided country were put forward by the two narrators, both in Turkish and Greek and were warmly and enthusiastically received by the audiences.
